GP Police Arrested Motorist for DUII after Crash into Yorktown Drive Home
Grants Pass Police arrested a motorist for impaired driving and more after he crashed his vehicle into a house on the southeast side of the city late yesterday. The Police Department reports officers and emergency crews were dispatched to the incident in the 100-block of SE Yorktown Drive on Wednesday at 4:40 p.m.. Police said a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a white pickup went off the roadway and drove through the wall of a house. The caller advised the entire front end of the truck was inside the house and he was checking to see if his neighbors were hurt. No injuries were reported. The crash prompted calls to the Grants Pass Water Department and Pacific Power to check out the water and electrical connections. Crews arrived on scene and secured the utilities. No estimate was available on damage to the dwelling. Officers contacted the driver -- 29-year-old Jonathan Isaac Kruse -- and observed signs of impairment. He performed poorly in field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample, so he was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center for a legal blood draw that documented a high level of impairment. Kruse was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving and 2nd-Degree Criminal Mischief. His damaged pickup was impounded.

RR-Siskiyou Forest Supervisor Lifts Temporary Closure on Butte Fork Trail
In response to public feedback regarding wilderness accessibility, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Supervisor Molly Juillerat has lifted a closure order for a section of the Butte Fork Trail in the Red Buttes Wilderness. In reviewing the closure order that went into effect on November 9th, Juillerat has determined the trail is safe for users and only the bridge needs to be closed. Juillerat said the trail is important for those who recreate in this area, especially equestrians, and that there is not a passable bridge and no easy way to cross the river as there is a cliff in that location. However, the trail can still be used as an out-and-back. The Butte Fork Bridge Closure that runs through October 2025 was implemented due to catastrophic failure associated with decayed substructures. The bridge is no longer viable and -- in true wilderness form -- it is up to the individual to find safe passage.

Interstate 5 Reopens Over Siskiyou Summit, But Expect Tough Travel Conditions
Interstate 5 reopened northbound and southbound over the Siskiyou Summit between milepost 11 in Ashland and the Oregon-California border late last night. The Oregon Department of Transportation posted that while the freeway is open today, travel may still be difficult with changing weather conditions. Those who choose to drive this stretch should be prepared for chain restrictions and watch for snowplows and workers in the area. Travelers should also carry emergency supplies and check the weather forecast and "TripCheck.com" before heading into northern California. A check of traffic cams just south of Ashland early this morning showed a long line of semis re-entering freeway lanes. Many of these vehicles had been held for about 24 hours while I-5 was closed Wednesday. Expect slow traffic and workers in the area around the Siskiyou Summit. The forecast calls for warming today, but plenty of rain through northern California and into southwest Oregon. Snow levels are expected to rise above 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service. Snow levels will lower again by Friday afternoon.
