Local Chamber of Commerce Hosting 4th Annual Lemonade Day Event This Friday

The Grants Pass & Josephine County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 4th Annual Lemonade Day on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.. Over 200 participants have signed up for the program this year. There will be lemonade stands set up throughout Grants Pass and surrounding areas, helping to create the next generation of business experts. These young entrepreneurs will be selling their final product -- lemonade. Prizes will be given for the best product and most creative stand. There will also be a chance for the public to vote for the People's Choice. Throughout the course of this program, youngsters learn how to start, own and operate their own business -- a lemonade stand. They learn business skills, financial literacy, goal-setting and teamwork. This experience helps spark an explosion of new confidence in their abilities and a new vision of the possibilities for the future. Many stands will be located in Historic Downtown Grants Pass in partnership with the First Friday Art Stroll. Board Scheduled to Consider Library Annexation and Sheriff's Property Sale
The Josephine County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to take care of two routine items during its weekly business session tomorrow morning. The Board will open the meeting with a public hearing on an annexation to the Josephine Community Library District by petition of the landowner. Under Administrative Actions, the Commissioners will consider an order that confirms the Sheriff's Property Sale of July 17th and authorizes distribution of the proceeds from that sale. This will be the first business session for newly-appointed Commissioner Andreas Blech who was chosen to finish out the term of former Commissioner Dan DeYoung who resigned from the Board on July 15th. Wednesday's public meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Anne G. Basker Auditorium.

Deputies Jailed Sunny Valley Man for Threatening Ready Ride Driver with Gun
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office jailed a Sunny Valley man early yesterday for threatening a Ready Ride driver with a gun. The Sheriff's Office reports deputies arrested the 45-year-old male subject in the 700-block of Placer Road on Monday at 11:24 a.m.. Deputies said a Ready Ride driver was following his navigation system to pick up a client when it took him to the wrong driveway. The driver was confronted by a resident who knocked on his window and complained about him driving too fast. The driver locked the doors and the man kept yelling at him. As the driver began to pull away, the man pulled out a gun and pointed at his head. The entire incident was recorded on the vehicle's camera. Upon arrival, deputies reviewed the camera footage and the suspect was placed into custody after admitting to the incident. He was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing.

OSP Nabbed GP Felon for Fleeing from Attempted Traffic Stop in Illinois Valley
The Oregon State Police arrested a Grants Pass felon who fled from an attempted traffic stop on Redwood Highway in the Illinois Valley early yesterday. OSP reports troopers tried to stop a Honda Civic driven by a 36-year-old male subject near milepost 32 of US Highway 199 on Monday at 8:22 a.m.. Troopers said they observed the subject from a prior eluding incident and tried to pull him over. The man immediately crashed his car on the shoulder, bailed out and fled from the vehicle on foot. A foot pursuit was initiated and the man was apprehended without further incident. According to OSP, a criminal amount of methamphetamine and a hand-held Taser were found in the suspect's possession. The drugs and weapon were seized. The suspect was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Attempt to Elude Police and the resulting Felony Parole Violation. Charges of Felon in Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Meth were referred to the District Attorney's Office for consideration. He was being held without bail and his car was impounded.

OSP Collared GP Woman on Out-of-State Fugitive Warrant after Menacing Call
The Oregon State Police arrested a Grants Pass woman on an out-of-state fugitive warrant while investigating a complaint near Murphy last night. According to OSP, troopers were dispatched to a call for service regarding possible menacing near milepost 8 of Williams Highway on Monday at 6:11 p.m.. During the course of the investigation, troopers contacted a 39-year-old female subject who was found to be wanted on an out-of-state felony warrant for failing to appear in court for an unspecified crime. She was immediately placed into custody. The suspect was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the warrant and she was being held on $250,000 bail. It wasn't clear whether the warrant was extraditable. The state where she was wanted was not disclosed.

GP Police Snared Frequent Flyer for Allen Creek Shopping Center Outburst
Grants Pass Police arrested a well-known criminal offender for an outburst in the Allen Creek Shopping Center early yesterday. According to the Police Department, officers were alerted to a trespassing call involving the 35-year-old female subject at the Dutch Bros stand in the shopping center on Tuesday shortly after 7 a.m.. Police said the woman was yelling at employees and customers at Dutch Bros before she was warned for trespassing and walked next door to McDonalds. But as officers drove away, she returned to Dutch Bros and started yelling again. Officers returned and told the woman she was under arrest, but she physically resisted by twisting her torso and pulling her arms away to prevent them from placing her into custody. She was eventually subdued, handcuffed and lifted into the back of a patrol vehicle due to her continued resistance. The suspect was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Resisting Arrest and 2nd-Degree Criminal Trespass. She was being held without bail.

Late Night Disturbance in Downtown GP Led to Arrest of Man on Warrant
A late night disturbance in downtown Grants Pass led to the arrest of a well-known criminal offender on a local felony warrant. Grants Pass Police responded to a male subject yelling at the corner of SE 6th and G streets on Monday at 11:08 p.m.. Officers contacted a 30-year-old man whom they knew from numerous police contacts. A routine records check showed that he was wanted on a Grants Pass felony warrant for failing to appear in court for Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The suspect was placed into custody and lodged in jail on the outstanding warrant.

GP Police Arrested 2 on Warrants and Evicted 2 during City Park Checks
Grants Pass Police arrested two people on outstanding warrants and evicted two campers for ordinance violations during city park patrol checks on Monday. At Fruitdale Park, a man was cited for Buffer Zone Violation and Misuse of Open Space. He was trespassed from the park for 30 days. At Morrison Centennial Park, a 55-year-old man was arrested on Grants Pass and Josephine County warrants for alleged crimes of Probation Violation, Assault and Larceny. He was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on $55,000 bail. At Riverside Park, a man was cited for failing to remove his campsite after a previous warning and he was issued a 30-day exclusion. Also at Riverside Park, a 24-year-old woman was arrested on a Grants Pass warrant for Probation Violation related to a previous arrest for Assault. She was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on $30,000 bail.

Sunday Afternoon Wrecks on Redwood Highway Kept IV Responders Busy
Emergency first responders had their hands full with two Sunday afternoon wrecks on Redwood Highway in the Illinois Valley. On Sunday at 2:36 p.m., the Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response and Oregon State Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on US Highway 199 at Holton Creek Road near Kerby. OSP reports evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the driver of a white Dodge pickup was distracted, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck the side of a travel trailer being pulled by a silver Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Dodge was identified as a 70-year-old Cave Junction man and the driver of the Chevrolet was identified as a 58-year-old Central Point man. No one was hurt and no citations were issued. It was unclear if any vehicles were towed. On Sunday at 3:42 p.m., IVFD, AMR and OSP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 199 near Smokejumper Way. Scene evidence and driver statements indicated there was a road rage incident just prior to the wreck. Troopers said a white Toyota Tacoma driven by a 41-year-old Crescent City woman was driving in the right lane when a red Honda CRV driven by a 25-year-old O'Brien man tried to pass the Tacoma on the right due to them not moving over. The Tacoma moved into the left lane just as the CRV tried to go around the Tacoma on the left. The vehicles collided and came to rest on the highway. According to OSP, the driver of the CRV and the passenger in the Tacoma exited their vehicles and yelled at each other. The driver of the CRV pushed the passenger of the Tacoma, causing him to fall over the guardrail. Charges of 4th-Degree Assault against both parties were referred to the District Attorney's Office.

Eugene Man Jailed for 8 Crimes after Incident in the Northern Applegate Valley
A Eugene man was jailed for eight alleged crimes following a domestic violence incident in the northern Applegate Valley last weekend. The Oregon State Police reports troopers arrested the 61-year-old male subject on Sunday at 11:15 p.m. after a traffic stop near milepost 10 of Williams Highway. Troopers said they located the subject fleeing in a Volvo XS90 after perpetrating a domestic violence incident. They said the man had taken a 3-year-old boy from the 33-year-old female victim and fled in a stolen vehicle. According to OSP, the suspect eluded an attempted traffic stop and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect vehicle was eventually disabled and the man was placed into custody. The young child was returned to his mother. The suspect -- identified by OSP as Anderon Martell -- was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, 1st-Degree Criminal Mischief, Felony Attempt to Elude Police, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, 4th-Degree Assault and Menacing. He was being held without bail.

GP Police Jailed Felon for Weapons & Parole Violations after Shots-Fired Call
Grants Pass Police jailed a felon for a weapons crime and violating his post-prison supervision after a citizen complaint in the south part of the city early yesterday. The Police Department reports officers arrested a 39-year-old male subject for the incident in the 300-block of Short Street on Monday at 2:16 a.m.. Police said they responded to the area of Short and West Park streets in regard to a shots-fired call. A neighbor called 9-1-1 to report that she heard a gun discharged and the man suspected to have shot the firearm was arguing with a woman next to a silver Honda Accord. The caller also said she heard screaming and was unsure if anyone had been shot. Officers arrived on scene and found the man sitting in the driver seat of the car with a woman sitting in the front passenger seat. The man was wearing an empty holster and a gun was found hidden within reach of the driver seat. The .22-caliber Ruger pistol was seized as evidence. The suspect was placed into custody and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Felon in Possession of a Weapon and the resulting Felony Parole Violation related to a 2019 conviction for an unspecified crime. Jail records show the man has been arrested for violating his parole five times since August of last year.

Deputies Incarcerated Man for Unlawfully Entering House on Takilma Road in IV
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office arrested a man who unlawfully entered a home in the Illinois Valley last weekend. According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a trespassing complaint in the 4600-block of Takilma Road on Sunday around 12:45 p.m.. Deputies said the property owner called 9-1-1 to report a large man with a beard broke into his house, but did not steal anything. The caller reported the neighboring property is a "nuisance property" and there are about 10 people living there whom he said are responsible for numerous thefts in the area. A records check showed that the neighboring property was also well-known to law enforcement, with a history of weapons use there. Upon arrival, deputies located the 46-year-old suspect and placed him into custody. He was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail for 1st-Degree Criminal Trespass.
