White City Fire Mysterious
The fire that destroyed two White City businesses and damaged several others last Friday remains a mystery. Investigators are asking the public’s help in determining the cause of the massive industrial fire. Authorities are seeking photographs and video footage of the early stages of the fire.
Fire Danger "High"
Fire danger in Josephine and Jackson County is officially “high”, a notch above where it has been most of the spring and early summer. The change is effective on all ODF protected land.
New restrictions go with the higher level including no mowing dead or dry grass between 1 and 8 p.m., driving only on improved roads, and no use of chain saws between 1 and 8 p.m.
County Commissioners Meeting
Josephine County Commissioners have busy agenda today. When they convene in room 154 of the court house at 9:00 this morning they’ll be dealing with the Josephine County Parks ordinance, revisions of the emergency medical services ordinances, and the refunding of property taxes over the amount of $10,000.
Missing boy's parents appear on "Today," say
Desiree and Tony Young, the mother and step-father of the missing Kyron Horman, appeared on this morning’s “Today” show on NBC and said they believe the boy’s stepmother is responsible for his disappearance.
The Youngs, who live in Medford, said they are convinced the boy’s stepmother is not only responsible but that Terri Moulton Horman plotted the boy’s disappearance.
SOMMER starts in time for summer
Seven Southern Oregon counties, including Josephine County, have formed an agency to coordinate their efforts to fight marijuana-growing operations.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Department has joined sheriff’s offices in Jackson, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Klamath and Lake counties to form the Southern Oregon Multi-Agency Marijuana Eradication and Reclamation group, or SOMMER.
Two injured in recent road accidents
The Josephine County Sheriff Department has reported a several incidents on roads around the county.
Two people have been taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital from the accidents.
Public comment accepted at UGB meeting tonight
If you didn’t get a chance to attend the recent “open-house”-style meetings on the proposed alternatives for the Grants Pass Urban Growth Boundary, the Grants Pass Urban Area Planning Commission is hosting a meeting just to take public comment at the City Council Chambers starting at 6 p.m.
DA report concludes deputies were fired on first
Officers involved in the fatal shooting involving Josephine County deputies on Denton Trail Road that left one man dead on June 23 "conducted themselves to appropriate professional standards,” according District Attorney Stephen Campbell’s review of the incident.
The investigation concluded that Vaughn Sanderson had fired a shotgun at deputies John Justema and Joel Heller before Justema fired one shot that fatally wounded Sanderson.
Medford Limits Access to School's Synthetic Turf
The public will have only limited access to new synthetic turf tracks at North and South Medford high schools and fees will be charged for organizations to use the fields.
48 Unit Apartment Complex Proposed in Medford
The Jackson County Housing Authority is proposing an $8.8 million, 48-unit apartment complex be built in northeast Medford. The project would include one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, a clubhouse, a basketball court and playground on Arrowhead Drive.
